At the end of March, 2011, the hot commission of 1.2mtpa pellet plant project of MSPL, India, contracted by Sinosteel Equipment & Engineering Co., Ltd. (abbreviated by Sinosteel MECC) was successfully achieved. Commercial operation is smooth and the design parameters are even exceeded after test, which proves that China’s Grate-Kiln technology can be applied to hematite iron ore.

The Grate-Kiln technology was widely used from 2000s in China. Up to now, there are more than 40 pellet plant with the anneal yield beyond 1.2mtpa. The pellet production has been expanding by millions tons every year. After the successful experience of Grate-Kiln technology in Domestic market, the Chinese technology provider such as Sinosteel MECC starts exploring the whole new market in India which is domained by Hematite Ore. So far three 1.2mtpa and several 0.6mtpa pellet production lines have already been put into operation in India. This shows that Grate-Kiln technology is not only suitable for magnetite iron ore but also 100% hematite iron ore. The flourishing market of India will bring more opportunity for China’s metallurgical technology.
